The Chasing of the Sunlight

Interior Design

This case is a single-story residential building planning. The actual indoor area is only about 25 square meters. Because of the limited space, the design avoided excessive redundant or complex line stacking and pure decorative modeling as far as possible. The outline color between the ceiling, ground, and the wall is mainly composed of introverted and low-key dark and light grayscale and light wood color. While reserving the broader field, we also maintained the flexibility of replacing furniture software in the future.

This design, named "The Chasing of the Sunlight," showcases a unique approach to interior design in a small space. Created by designers Chen Kuan-Chiao and Wu Wei-Mou, this project demonstrates how thoughtful planning and creative solutions can transform a compact area into a functional and aesthetically pleasing living space.

With a total area of 25 square meters, this single-story residential building was designed to meet the owner's expectations of having a dining area that can accommodate at least three to four people and two bedrooms, in addition to the essential living functions of a general home. The challenge of maximizing space utilization while maintaining a sense of openness was successfully overcome by the design team.

The key to the success of this design lies in the careful selection of materials and the use of innovative construction techniques. The indoor walls are constructed with a clear water mold coating trowel, which not only provides a smooth and visually appealing surface but also ensures durability. The waterproof wood floor adds warmth and comfort to the space, creating a welcoming atmosphere.

The dining table, made of imitation stone system board, is not only aesthetically pleasing but also practical and easy to clean. The choice of materials throughout the design reflects a commitment to both functionality and visual appeal.

The overall layout of the space is open, allowing for the penetration of light and shadow even when the glass doors are closed. The kitchen area, although small, is equipped with complete cooking functions. The ceiling, sprayed with a black coating instead of using common flat nails, creates a sense of rising height, adding to the overall spaciousness of the design.

This project was completed in January 2021 in Taipei City, Taiwan. The design team faced various challenges, including the enlargement of the bathroom, the installation of a classic barn door to optimize space utilization, and the placement of an instantaneous water heater above the ceiling. These challenges were overcome through creative problem-solving and meticulous attention to detail.

"The Chasing of the Sunlight" is a testament to the power of innovative design in transforming limited spaces into functional and visually appealing environments. This project has been recognized for its excellence and was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2022. This prestigious award is given to designs that demonstrate practicality, innovation, and adherence to professional and industrial standards.
